“We feel like this song definitely communicates who we are and where we came from,” explained group member Karen Fairchild. “We’ve been together as a band for six and a half years, working, writing and defining our sound. ‘Boondocks’ is the culmination of that time, and a single we feel really proud of.” “The response they are getting from the radio people has been great,” said Rick Baumgartner, VP of promotion for Equity. “Everyone really loves the feel of ‘Boondocks.’ Their harmonies are incredible, something that only a real band that has gone through the kind of stuff they have gone through can accomplish. If you didn’t know better, you’d swear they were related—they have that kind of blood harmony.”
According to Baumgartner, “Boondocks” is getting some good out of the box adds and comments. WIVK/Knoxville’s Mike Hammond said “after seeing Little Big Town, they are big time...what harmony...it's an add." Noted Julie Stevens, KRTY/San Jose: "If you honestly need a quote from somebody else to tell you that this is one of the greatest country songs ever, you're in the wrong business."
Likewise, Ginny Rogers with WKLB/Boston says, “This is IT...this is the single I've been waiting for from Little Big Town! Cool song with the best harmonies in the business."
In the past year LBT have recorded their debut CD for Equity, with Kirkpatrick at the helm, performed for the troops in Afghanistan, toured around the country, opening several dates for LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban, and Clint Black. Just this week, they performed for Frank Wycheck’s Special Olympics event. On June 22 they will perform at the Wildhorse in Nashville for the Second Harvest Food Bank’s fund raising event. And for the past month, they have been on the road, playing their new music for radio PDs and MDs.
LBT is Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook. “Boondocks” is the first single from their upcoming fall CD release.
